Living with Chronic Heart Failure

Around 3 to 5 million people in Germany are diagnosed with heart failure. It is one of the most common cardiovascular diseases and affects around 1 percent of the population in Western countries. In 2019 alone, 487,247 patients were admitted to the hospital because of chronic heart failure - this is the most common reason for admission to a hospital in Germany due to illness (source: www.gbe-bund.de)

Thanks to medical advances, e.g. in the manufacture of new drugs and tests in clinical studies, very good therapies are now available. Even if it is generally advisable to take physical rest, that does not mean that you should just stay at home. On the contrary, regular exercise is recommended, not until exhaustion, but as moderate physical endurance training, such as cycling, running, etc. (of course in consultation with your doctor).
